The Draft "Expert" - Wk 11 Quarterback Prospect Rankings

Welcome back one and all to another Draft "Expert" prospect ranking blog post! Once again, to the surprise of hopefully no one, it's about the quarterbacks for the 2022 NFL Draft. Woah! Can't believe it!

Unlike previous lists though, this one does not really see a lot of movement. As opposed to last week especially, where every quarterback on the list, apart from like one, moved in some capacity.

This week, though there isn't much movement by comparison, we do see a new name enter the top 10, see Matt Corral hold his spot at number one after defeating Texas A&M, see Desmond Ridder have his best statistical game of the season against USF, Dorian Thompson-Robinson returning from injury after a two week absence, and MORE!

So, without any further delay, here is the Draft "Expert's" week 11 quarterback prospect rankings! Enjoy!

Pictured: Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati; Bailey Zappe, Western Kentucky; Carson Strong, Nevada

1. Matt Corral, Ole Miss

Wk 11 - 24/37 247 yds 1 touchdown 0 interceptions/10 carries -5 yds 0 touchdowns v no.11 Texas A&M (29-19 W)

Season - 206/309 2,774 yds 17 touchdowns 2 interceptions/126 carries 523 yds 10 touchdowns

  • This was another pretty simple game from the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, which saw them take down the 11th ranked A&M Aggies in Oxford 29-19. Much like the game against Liberty, running back Jerrion Ealy was the main cog in the offensive machine. Posting another 100+ yard game, rushing for 152 yards on a season high 24 carriers against the Aggies. Now, we have seen all season that Ole Miss can run the ball well, as they average around 240 yards per game on the ground, but up until the past couple games, had been mostly ran by quarterback Matt Corral, who has not ran for over 50 yards since the insane 30 carry 195 yard game against Tennessee on October 16th, which is smart. Corral is clearly playing injured right now, and it's a good decision by Lane Kiffin to corral Matt Corral so he doesn't get beaten up more than he already does. Along with that, Corral is playing safer, which is good to see. His stats recently won't blow you away but he's still getting the job done, posting 247 yards and a touchdown in the dub on Saturday. That being said, Corral hasn't thrown for more than one touchdown since that aforementioned Tennessee game (a game where he also got sacked five times). Going four straight games with one or less touchdowns to his name through the air. Am I worried about that? No, not at all. I think Corral is doing fine and just needs to focus on staying on the field for the Rebels for them to have success for the rest of the season.

Wk 11 - BYE

Season - 156/235 2,159 yds 21 touchdowns 9 interceptions/153 carries 755 yds 10 touchdowns

  • Malik Willis and Liberty are coming off a bye this past week after losing a tough game to Ole Miss on the road the week before. This week, Willis and co. are taking on another tough team in the form of Louisiana. Though this game is at home Louisiana is coming in with a 9-1 record and stud quarterback of their own in the form of Levi Lewis, who is almost as dangerous as Willis himself. I would highly recommend you watch this game this weekend, it is at 3 o'clock central time on ESPNU, it should be a very fun one.

Wk 11 - 25/43 346 yds 3 touchdowns 1 interception/10 carries -11 yds 0 touchdowns v North Carolina (30-23 W)

Season - 260/385 3,517 yds 32 touchdowns 4 interceptions/82 carries 231 yds 4 touchdowns

  • Kenny Pickett has had himself an amazing season so far, but this past Thursday's game against North Carolina wasn't really one of his best. Though he threw for 346 yards with three touchdowns, he missed quite a few receivers and threw a really bad interception in the fourth quarter which could've seen UNC take the lead and possibly the win. Thankfully for Pickett, North Carolina faltered numerous times on that drive and had to settle for a field goal, which led to overtime and a Pitt win. Along with a few wayward passes, Pickett rushed lower -11 yards and got sacked for a joint season high four times. All around this was just a really messy game, which showed during North Carolina's first and last drive in overtime, when a monsoon swept over the Heinz Field. Though this wasn't his best game, I think Pickett still has done enough to keep his spot here at number three. He still leads the top five in passing touchdowns and is second in yards and I think will have a very nice game against a struggling Virginia defense that has allowed almost 462 yards per game and around 31 points per game as well. I think Pickett is a very good quarterback (obviously) and will be fun to watch this Saturday.

4. Carson Strong, Nevada

Wk 11 - 34/48 350 yds 3 touchdowns 0 interceptions/5 carries -23 yds 0 touchdowns @ no.22 San Diego State (23-21 L)

Season - 323/458 3,547 yds 28 touchdowns 7 interceptions/38 carries -146 yds 0 touchdowns

  • Like we've said the entire season, the Mountain West is a tough conference this year, and this game was an example of that. A recently 7-2 Nevada team taking on a top 25 ranked San Diego State team, with a top five defense, on the road, yet coming up just short in the end, losing by two. In this game, though they lost, Nevada did what they do best, passing the ball at will with Carson Strong and Romeo Doubs, despite the Aztecs aforementioned top five defense. Statistically, Strong put together a very strong performance, throwing for 350 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, with one of those touchdowns coming from a 54-yard pass to Doubs to put the Wolf Pack up 21-20 with just over nine minutes left in the game. A tough loss, yes, but not a debilitating loss by any stretch of the imagination. This next week though, against Air Force, will be another tough test for the Wolf Pack, as the Falcons only give up around 184 yards through the air per game, ranking them inside the top 15 defenses in the nation for pass defense. Much like the last game, I'm intrigued to see how Strong handles the Falcons defense, especially with tight end Cole Turner coming back from a concussion that saw him miss the SDSU game last Saturday. Because it's Carson Strong, I believe he'll put together another nice performance, but this Falcons defense, again, is not to be messed with. Friday night should be a fun one.

5. Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati

Wk 11 - 31/39 304 yds 2 touchdowns 1 interception/13 carries 65 yds 1 touchdown @ USF (45-28 W)

Season - 189/287 2,425 yds 22 touchdowns 6 interceptions/80 carries 279 yds 5 touchdowns

  • Over the past few games, we have talked about Cincinnati struggling to beat teams that they should really be pushing aside with relative ease. Team's like Navy, Tulane, and Tulsa aren't necessarily the biggest powers in college football, but they all played the Bearcats tough. This week was, at times, a little similar, especially with Cincinnati starting the game off with a fumble on their first play of the game and then a near pick six on their second drive of the game. In the end though, Cincinnati figured it out, and put the Bulls down 45-28 last Friday. In this game, despite the near pick six, Desmond Ridder had his best statistical game of the season. Throwing for a season high 304 with a season high in attempts and completions to go along with that as well. Those 304 yards are the most Ridder has had in a game since November 21st of last year, when the Bearcats beat the UCF Knights, which saw Ridder throw for 338 yards and two touchdowns. He even ran for 65 yards, which is the most yards he's had on the ground since the AAC Championship game against Tulsa last season. All in all, though it started off really rough, Cincinnati took down an inferior opponent on the road, making this their third out of their last four wins coming on the road. This week though, they are taking on their toughest opponent since Notre Dame, facing the SMU Mustangs back at Nippert Stadium. Though the Mustangs have lost two of their last three games, they're a very tough team to play, and we'll have to see if Cincy's normally stout defense can handle Tanner Mordecai and the SMU passing attack. This one should be a very fun one to watch on Saturday.

6. Sam Howell, North Carolina

Wk 11 - 22/33 296 yds 2 touchdowns 1 interception/17 carries 28 yds 1 touchdown @ no.21 Pitt (30-23 L)

Season - 191/301 2,704 yds 22 touchdowns 8 interceptions/152 carries 717 yds 9 touchdowns

  • It is kind of unfortunate Sam Howell and co. came out the losers on the road against Pitt this past Thursday. After coming back from 23-7 to force overtime, an essential monsoon kicked in right after Pitt scored to go up 30-23, with North Carolina basically unable to do anything through the pouring rain, which saw Howell throw his only interception of the game. Despite the loss, Howell played well, throwing for almost 300 yards with two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. Though Howell only had 28 yards on the ground (which is his first game under 90 yards on the ground since October 2nd against Duke) he took a real beating, getting sacked five times while also taking a big time shot on his interception in overtime, causing him to get up slow afterwards. As we've stated throughout the season, Howell's play has been pretty inconsistent, but one thing you can't discredit him for is his heart and willingness to get UNC the win, even if it is a little risky. This week for UNC, they're taking on Wofford, which could be a very nice and easy game for Howell and co., as the Terriers are 1-9 this season. This should serve as a nice tune up game for the Tar Heels before they take on a tough NC State team on the road on Black Friday.

Wk 11 - 24/37 244 yds 1 touchdown 1 interception/17 carries 7 yds 0 touchdowns v no.1 Georgia (41-17 L)

Season - 153/223 2,138 yds 22 touchdowns 3 interceptions/129 carries 464 yds 4 touchdowns

  • We all knew going into this weekend that this would be a very steep uphill battle for the Volunteers this weekend as they took on the no.1 team in the nation. That being said, early on, Tennessee looked really up to the task, going up 10-7 after the first quarter. Though they started off good, much like they're game against Alabama, where they were up 14-7 after one quarter, they fell off, losing the game 41-17. Now, losing to Georgia and Alabama is nothing to be ashamed about, as they are arguably the two best teams in college football this season, with Georgia's defense playing out of their gosh darn minds this season, but it was just another false dawn for the Vols this season. That being said, quarterback Hendon Hooker put together a decent performance against the nation's number one defense, throwing for 244 yards with a touchdown. Though he did threw an interception which led to a Georgia touchdown to put them up 17-10. To end the season for Tennessee, they play two very winnable games, taking on South Alabama this week before taking on in-state rivals Vanderbilt at home. Against South Alabama, the Vols shouldn't have any real problems (apart from Jalen Tolbert) as the Jaguars have lost three of their past four games, with all of those loses coming on the road. I expert Hooker and co. to have a very nice day against the Jags in Knoxville on Saturday.

Season - 208/348 3,163 yds 30 touchdowns 8 interceptions/75 carries 328 yds 9 touchdowns

  • Sam Hartman threw a lot of passes during the past weekends match-up with NC State. Throwing the ball 47 times while only completing 20 of them with three touchdowns but also three interceptions. Overall, not Hartman's best performance of the season, but it came with a dub, so I don't know if him or Wake Forest will care all too much about his statistical performance on Saturday. That being said, this is the second straight game Hartman has completed less than 50% of his passes, completing 42% of his throws this past game while throwing a season high three interceptions, throwing five over the past two games. Though these past two games haven't been the best statistically, Hartman has still had himself a very nice season, which has seen him throw 30 touchdowns, with a further nine on the ground. This is a season that has seen him set career highs in every passing and rushing category this season. I know it can be hard to look past the two most recent performances, but Hartman has had himself a very nice season, even if this week does see him drop down one spot in our rankings.

Season - 141/234 yds 1,896 yds 14 touchdowns 4 interceptions/106 carries 463 yds 7 interceptions

  • Welcome back DTR! After sitting out UCLA's last game against Utah with a hand injury, DTR was back under center against Colorado on Saturday, putting together a nice performance both through the air and on the ground. Though he didn't register a passing touchdown and threw an interception, Robinson threw for 257 yards with another 99 on the ground with a touchdown to boot, averaging more than a first down with every carry, in a dominating second half performance against the Buffaloes on Saturday, scoring 34 of their 44 points in said half and allowing zero. This was a nice rebound game for a Bruins team that had lost a tough game to Oregon before getting pounded by Utah on the road. After a bye and getting their starter back, UCLA looked good, which is what we expected. This week, DTR and co. will be taking on their city rivals USC, who did not play last week due to a COVID outbreak in the Cal Bears locker room. As we've said a few times this season, USC have been very odd and have only really had wide receiver Drake London as their only real source of offense. Now, with London out with a fractured ankle, UCLA really shouldn't have any problems taking down the Trojans. That being said, it should still be a fun one to watch.

Season - 342/483 4,170 yds 42 touchdowns 7 interceptions/38 carries 25 yds 3 touchdowns

  • Welcome to the top 10 Bailey Zappe! Now, it shouldn't be any surprise that Bailey Zappe is leading the nation in passing yards and passing touchdowns, because of the fact that Western Kentucky is and has been one of the most pass happy football teams in the country for a little bit now. That being said, the Hilltoppers have had some inconstancies at the quarterback position recently, but look at quarterbacks such as Mike White, Brandon Doughty, and now Zappe to see how effective they can be through the air. With White posting two 4,000+ yard seasons and Doughty posting 4,800+ and 5,000+ yard passing seasons at WKU. As we said before, Zappe, a transfer from Houston Baptist, is having a fantastic season. Throwing at least three passing touchdowns in every game this season, seeing him throw 5+ touchdowns in four games this season, with a season high coming week one against Tennessee Martin, where he threw seven touchdowns along with 424 yards. Though he may not be the most athletically gifted quarterback when it comes to running the ball, Zappe is more than effective through the air. With him transferring in, Western Kentucky is back at being one of the top passing teams in the nation. Congrats to Zappe for entering this weeks rankings!
