The Draft "Expert" - 2022 NFL Draft Comparisons: Quarterbacks

Welcome to another Logan Blackman Show 2022 Draft blog! Today, we are going to be looking at MY top 10 quarterbacks for the 2022 NFL Draft and compare them with a quarterback with similar traits.

NOTE: I am not saying these quarterbacks are as good or will become as good as the guy I am comparing them to, all this is saying is that they possess a similar skill set. Being talented and being good are two different things might I add.

So, what are you waiting for? Go through the list and see who I think each of MY top 10 quarterbacks in the 2022 Draft class compare to!

10. Phil Jurkovec (Boston College) - young Ben Roethlisberger

Why?

  • Big bodied quarterback (6'5" 226 lbs.)

  • Really strong arm

  • Underrated athlete

    • 2.9 yards per carry

  • Jurkovec is from Pittsburgh, so that's nice too

  • Here's some highlights for you

9. Matt Corral (Ole Miss) - Zach Wilson

Why?

  • Mixture of 2020 Zach Wilson and 2019 Zach Wilson

  • Natural thrower with a really strong arm

  • Good athlete, can ad-lib and make plays with his feet

  • A little on the small side (6'1" 205 lbs., concern?)

  • High ceiling (IF he can put everything together)

  • Corral can put his team in danger with some weird decision making

    • i.e.: six interceptions vs Arkansas (down below) and five interceptions vs LSU

8. Jayden Daniels (Arizona State) - Lamar Jackson

Why?

  • Slender build (tall and skinny)

    • Jayden Daniels: 6'3" 185 lbs.

    • Lamar Jackson: 6'3" 196 lbs. (freshman season at Louisville)

  • Really athletic (Daniels is NOT as fast as Jackson, but they are similar)

    • Gus Johnson: Daniels has "feline quickness"

    • i.e.: vs USC 2020 (111 yards) and vs Oregon State 2020 (83 yards)

    • Averaged 6.8 yards per attempt in 2020

  • Pretty strong arm

  • Inconsistent accuracy (at times)

    • 60.7% in 2019

    • 58.3% in 2020

  • Best game: vs no.6 Oregon 2019 (kept Oregon out of CFP)

    • True freshman season facing the no.6 team in the nation

    • 22-32 408 yards passing 3 passing touchdowns

7. JT Daniels (Georgia) - Josh Rosen

Why?

  • California kid

  • Most "Pro Ready" (whatever that means anymore)

  • Strong arm

  • Decently accurate

  • Quick processor/smart

    • Second true freshman to start a season opener for USC

    • Transferred to Georgia, got the starting job (eventually) (weird transfer)

  • Slender build (6'3" 210 lbs., concern?)

  • Injury history (concern?)

    • Tore his ACL in 2019

  • Not mobile; "flesh statue" (-226 rush yards over 16 career games)

6. Carson Strong (Nevada) - Matthew Stafford

Why?

  • Bigger quarterback

    • 6'4" 215 lbs. (built more like Matt Ryan: 6'4" 217 lbs.)

  • Really strong arm (get it? Strong has a strong arm) (many LOLs)

    • Vert rarely under throws his receivers

    • Decently quick release

  • Great ball placement/accurate

    • Back shoulder throws are NOT easy

  • Not insane athlete (but also, not a liability)

5. Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati) - Trey Lance

Why?

  • Very physical quarterback

  • Great runner

    • 1,814 rush yards over 35 career games (604.6 yards per season)

    • at SMU 2020; 1st and 10, 4:55 left in the 4th

  • Against no.16 SMU: 126 pass yards - 1 touchdown - 179 rush yards - 3 touchdowns

  • Strong arm

  • Inconsistent accuracy (at times)

    • Career high completion percentage; 66.2% (2020)

    • Career low completion percentage; 55.1% (2019)

4. Kedon Slovis (USC) - Joe Burrow/Kirk Cousins

Why?

  • Insanely accurate

  • Underrated athlete (not as athletic as Joe Burrow, closer to Kirk Cousins)

  • Decent arm, can still make most throws on the field

  • "Stat sheet stuffer" (has a high number of attempts/completions, a high competition percentage, has a lot of passing yards, and a lot of touchdowns)

    • Best season (2019; 11 starts): 282-392 (71.9%) - 3,502 passing yards - 30 TDs (9 ints)

      • Threw 2 passes against Utah (head injury)

  • Best game: at Colorado 2019 (did throw for 515 yards and 4 TDs against UCLA)

    • 30-44 - 406 pass yards - 4 touchdowns (1 interception)

    • Scored 14 unanswered points to beat Colorado

3. Malik Willis (Liberty) - Michael Vick

Why?

  • Cannon for an arm (strongest in the class imo)

    • Insane off balance throw vs UMass: 1st and 10 with 4:47 left in the 2nd

  • Inconsistent accuracy (sometimes caused by arm strength)

  • Is faster than everyone else on the field (electric)

  • Can make plays out of nothing (great ad-libber)

    • vs Florida International 2020: 3rd and 7 with 9:06 in the 4th

  • Size concern for Willis? (6'1" 215 lbs.)

1b. Sam Howell (North Carolina) - Baker Mayfield

Why?

  • Stocky build (look almost like brothers, it's weird)

    • Howell: 6'1" 225 lbs.

    • Mayfield: 6'1" 215 lbs.

  • Very accurate

  • Very consistent

    • 2019: 259-422 (61.4%) - 3,641 yards (8.6) - 38 touchdowns (7 interceptions)

      • First true freshman to start a season opener for North Carolina EVER

    • 2020: 237-348 (68.1%) - 3,586 yards (10.3) - 30 touchdowns (7 interceptions)

  • Underrated athlete

    • 181 career rushing yards (6 touchdowns)

  • How will he do without Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, Dyami Brown, and Dazz Newsome? (all drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft) (4,168 yards between them)

1a. Spencer Rattler (Oklahoma) - Patrick Mahomes

Why?

  • Cannon for an arm

  • Effortless thrower (flick of the wrist is a 50 yard throw)

  • Can contort his body to make every throw

  • Comes from a pass happy offense

  • Good athlete (great ad-libber)

  • Really high ceiling (insanely high)

  • Size concern for Rattler? (6'1" 205 lbs.)

  • Can he stay consistent?

    • Start of 2020 season

      • Loses to Kansas State (38-35) and Iowa State (37-30)

        • 3 interceptions against Kansas State

      • Benched against Texas but came back and led OU to a 4 OT win

      • Didn't lose after the Texas game
