INTERNSHIP REVIEW
What I’ve done:
Throughout my internship at 1650 The Fan I feel that I have grown as a sports personality and have gotten better in my overall radio skills. From making promos for the show, as well as for the companion shows on FOX and CBS Sports, and providing content for the show, I feel that this internship has helped me grow and has further cemented what I want to do with the rest of my life.
During my internship, I would go and download audio clips, promo clips, from the different shows that we run on the Fan. Shows such as the Dan Patrick Show, the Jason Smith Show, the Jim Rome Show, etc. We do this to help promote the other shows at the station which, we hope, will drive listenership up. I have also read sports reports, which I do every day I’m there, which are 60-seconds each time and give a brief update on what is going on around the area as well as some more national things that will be airing on the station, such as an NFL football game.
Cole, my boss, has also tasked me to come up with ideas for the show. If he’s struggling to come up with content, he’ll shoot me a text to come up with a segment filler, which I feel I have done a good job at doing.
Though not entirely linked with Cole’s show, during my internship, I have run the board for some high school football playoff games. By “run the board,” I mean I am controlling when the broadcaster can talk, when commercials are on, when we’ll be back from break and so on and so forth.
As I stated in my first paragraph, I feel that I have grown a lot since taking the internship on and I hope to continue doing stuff like the for the rest of my life.
Here is a comprehensive list of what I have done while working for Cole at 1650 The Fan:
Co-Hosting the show
Providing insight
Downloading/uploading promos
60-second sports updates
Content creator/segment filler
Running the radio board (board op)
